Who we are
The Office of the Supervising Scientist is responsible for protecting the environment of the Alligator Rivers Region, including Kakadu National Park, from the effects of uranium mining. We conduct independent research and monitoring, participate in and oversee the regulatory process for uranium mining in the region and develop standards and practices for environmental protection.
The Job
You will lead an environmental radiation research program focussed on assessing the radiological impacts to people and the environment from uranium mining operations and site rehabilitation in the Alligator Rivers Region of the Northern Territory. Tasks include:
- Plan and deliver research and monitoring projects.
- Manage staff, budget and resources.
- Evaluate complex radionuclide datasets.
- Radiation dose modelling and assessment.
- Prepare and publish research papers as lead author.
- Present research outcomes to key stakeholders.
- Provide expert technical advice on regulatory applications.
- Develop linkages for collaboration with other organisations.
The qualifications, skills and experience required to be successful in this job include:
- University qualification relevant to the role.
- Expert knowledge of radioactive decay processes and radiation exposure pathways for uranium mining.
- Expert knowledge of international best practice recommendations for radiation protection and dose assessment methods.
- Experience leading and managing research projects.
- Proven record of high-quality research papers relevant to the role.
- Experience managing staff.
- Highly developed technical writing and verbal communication skills.

Pay: 84,484.98kr - 117,387.41kr per year
